Total lunar eclipse of May 16, 2003

Despite the relatively good atmospheric conditions, the lunar eclipse of May 16, 2003 was not particularly inspiring, as totality happened over Belgium with the moon very low above the horizon. It was almost impossible to see the moon with the naked eye at the moment of totality. I therefore restricted my short observing session to some digital photographing only, using an Olympus C-3030 Zoom 3.1 megapixel camera. A representative image is shown below.

Total lunar eclipse of May 16, 2003 as seen near the 12th century Roman church of the little village of Wezeren (very close to CBA Belgium Observatory). Inside the church is an altar, that is believed to be the oldest one in Northern Europe. It shows rosettes of the Sun, Moon and 5 planets. The image is a composite of 2 digital exposures, taken with an Olympus C3030-Zoom camera.
